UCOC Camp

Camp 2026 - Waimakariri and Castle Hill

Calling all UCOC Members!!

Are you ready for an insane weekend of getting lost in the bush around the stunning Waimakariri and Castle Hill areas? From absolute beginners to seasoned pros, this is the camp for you. We are so excited to bring you this year’s overnight camp, which combines coastal pine forests with unique rocky terrain, and sprint maps nestled at the base of mountains! Alongside Orienteering trainings we usually have a variety of other activities which can include punching races, mazes, indoor-o, star relays, side quests like cave stream, and of course, the annual UCOC Quiz. Being a social camp, this is the perfect opportunity to improve your orienteering skills as well as meet some awesome people and have fun!

Camp cost:

  • The cost is $25 pp (Includes food, transport, and accommodation)
  • As UCOC heavily subsidises this camp, you will need to be a paid member to attend the camp

Why should I come? The camp is multi-level , with courses set for both beginners and for our competitive club veterans. Not only is it a not-to-be-missed social event, but this is a perfect opportunity to improve your orienteering skills, try out some new maps, and meet awesome, like-minded people. You will also get to explore out beautiful backyard and trying not to get lost is always a great distraction from uni stress!

What if I’ve never done any orienteering?

All of the events and trainings will have beginner-friendly options! UCOC will provide coaching for those who would like to learn how to do Orienteering or who need a refresher. You are also welcome to go out on courses with your friends, and there is no pressure on how fast you can go or how many mistakes you make; it’s all about trying something new and having fun! We also have a limited supply of compasses we can loan out – please let us know of the sign up form if you would like to borrow one. We will be sending out more information and a gear list to everyone after sign-ups close!

The plan: The camp is overnight and will take up pretty much the whole weekend (14-15th), although there may be options to leave earlier on the Sunday! Exact timings and locations will be confirmed soon.
